The Lodge Dining Room
The Lodge at Sun Valley
Sun Valley, ID

208-622-2150

The Sun Valley Lodge in Sun Valley, Idaho is America's original ski resort, opening its first lift in 1936. The resort was the brainchild of Union Pacific Railroad boss Averell Harriman, who was determined to create a more glamorous ski destination than those in Europe and of course, persuade travelers to use the railroad.

The resort opened to a blizzard of parties with movie stars and socialites of the day including Spencer Tracy, Gary Cooper and Katherine Hepburn. Today, where the bar and hallways are packed with pictures of soirees past and famous faces, it is one of the most chic resorts in the world. Unlike the glitz and glamour of the illustrious guests, the property is understated and elegant.

While many celebrities like Brooke Shields, Oscar winning Director and accomplished skier, Clint Eastwood, and Jamie Lee Curtis have homes in Sun Valley, they still visit the resort, mainly for the incredible dining. The Lodge Dining Room on the second floor has a spectacular setting with refined service and one of the Northwest's best wine lists. It is resplendent with crystal chandeliers, silver cutlery and linen napkins. You'll need to dress like a star. A coat and tie for the gentlemen and ladies can show off their finest couture outfits. It is definitely not appropriate to wear your ski attire here.

The menu is exquisite. For starters, try the Galantine of Quail and Foie Gras with Pistachios and Black Currant Puree or the Classic French Onion Soup with Apple Brandy and Gruyere Cheese. Tempting main courses like Sautéed Elk Loin with Huckleberries, Roasted Shallots and Butternut Squash Puree or Pan Fried Idaho Ruby Trout with Meuniere Butter and Almonds and Citrus Scented Cous Cous. Perfect offerings for a healthy apres-ski appetite!
